Journalism suffers:
“When CBS replaced the edgy Rather with the sugary Katie Couric as anchor of the ‘Evening News,’ it imagined it had solved its problem, its ‘errors.’ The news would get softer, the Republicans in control of the White House and Congress would be nicer, Viacom would grab more media, and ratings would climb. Thus, [...]

Come drink with us
My friend Ryan is coordinating this extravaganza (with able creative direction provided by Brother Rob). There will be a silent auction, tunes, pink drinks, and if a Bitch shows up, more sarcasm and bitchitude than you can shake a Rod of Correction at.
And it’s for a good cause. What’s not to love?

What I miss about analog life
Something Scott wrote this morning got me thinking about:
Going to the mailbox and finding letters from faraway friends.
Long-distance phone calls.
Going on vacation and not being reachable by cell phone, e-mail, Blackberry, snozzberry, etc.
Getting postcards from people on vacation.
Vinyl records.
The feel of typewriter keys.
Having time to breathe.

Dachshunds are stubborn? You don’t say.
It’s a good thing that Mrs. Anya Christina Emmanuella Jenkins Plus-One’s-Last-Name Ricker is so adorable and irresistible. Because she is a minor nightmare to potty train. (I loved this sentence from an online article on the subject: “In short, they are the dog that is most like a cat [at least when it comes to [...]

I don’t heart Huckabee
“Huckabee skeptical of condom use to fight AIDS in Africa”
General public skeptical of Huckabee’s grasp on reality….

If today is a good day to die…
…then don’t you want to be buried in a Star Trek coffin?
Being fired out of a photon torpedo launcher on the U.S.S. Enterprise is, I assume, an additional charge.

Three o’clock with Fitzgerald
“His portrait of the artist as a broken-down failure was almost as indelible as the earlier stereotype of the gin-swilling golden boy. Having ceased to be a spokesman for his generation, Fitzgerald again became a symbol, this time of its flameout, like the apocryphal stockbroker jumping out of the window.
“Mok’s portrait is unseemly, but it’s [...]
