It’s a good thing that Mrs. Anya Christina Emmanuella Jenkins Plus-One’s-Last-Name Ricker is so adorable and irresistible. Because she is a minor nightmare to potty train. (I loved this sentence from an online article on the subject: “In short, they are the dog that is most like a cat [at least when it comes to having their own agenda].”) On the bright side, she isn’t making messes all over the house. On the other hand, a towel in her crate is never dry for long. At least she knows to go poo outside.
Aren’t you glad you came here to read about this?
Of course, the mention of Anya full name means that I now have this song running through my head (“Oh no, mustard on my shirt/I’ll never get it out/My favorite dress shirt/Dry clean it/How could you serve mustard?”—sad that I know all that, isn’t it?).

That name really rolls off the tongue.
And yes, it is sad that you know all that. And kinda cool too.

Sad? De rigueur, I’d say. (S.F.’s turn at the sing-along OMWF is this weekend. I’m going to both nights.)

“Because she is a minor nightmare to potty train.”
See? Vengeance demon! I told Your Mikey in a flickr comment that it was a possibility!
And speaking of Sing-a-longs, don’t forget the one in St. Louie is in about 3 weeks!

From my ages-ago life experience as a book editor for a pet imprint:
Dachshunds are the most difficult breed there is to potty train. Period. I seem to remember reading that you’ll need a full year of vigilence, and one should be prepared for setbacks up to a year after that.
Enjoy!
At least you can’t stay mad at a face that cute for long.

Jeff needs to supply a good news update! Anya became MUCH better with the potty training once we took her towel away from her crate last Friday. She barely makes a noise at night now, and she isn’t having accidents in there either. She’s graduated to free run of the first floor during the day. We still crate her at night … but eventually we’ll stop doing that too. Yay! Okay, so she made one poopie in the house when she decided it would be better to take a dump inside than to deal with the rain. I can’t really blame her for that. I wouldn’t enjoy squatting in the rain either. Doxies are KNOWN for hating to do their business in bad weather. She’s really awesome!
Obviously, I don’t need to post an update now because Plus One has ably taken care of it.
